Training with WebEx

I had an opportunity today to train someone using the new Cisco WebEx collaborative tool. The experience was indeed, a very positive one. Historically I have used other collaboration tools which shall remain nameless and each have been adequate, sometimes good, but mostly adequate. Cisco’s WebEx is the best tool I have used thus far.

Technical support was not required as the trainee’s end was intuitive enough so the trainee joined the conference without issue. I was able to communicate by video and audio and also provide a presentation to my client for training purposes.

For those who are interested I operate on a home-based network with a basic Internet cable provided. Sometimes bandwidth can be an issue in these cases but today, with WebEx, my client reported my video and audio as being very good. A special thanks to Randy for trying this out with me. Here’s his website: www.thebankofyou.com

I look forward to using this product as our regular training tool of choice.

Presenting with Power Point

Did you know you can view someone’s Power Point presentation without buying and installing Power Point? It’s true. At Online Software Training we advise our clients to download Microsoft’s Power Point viewer. It is a free download and can be downloaded for free here. Once you have it installed on your computer you can simply open (double-click) any Power Point presentation that someone e-mails you and view the content.

For Mac users I am sorry to say I am not aware of a version that is custom made for you. If anyone out there knows of one, please comment on this post and provide a link.

Windows Defender

Have you ever noticed that your computer is slower starting up than it used to be when you first bought it?

This may be because you have programs starting up at power up that you do not necessarily want to use.

Windows Defender lets you see and remove programs which startup when your computer turns on.

Follow this path on your computer (in XP) and you can make some adjustments ….

Start >> All programs >> Windows Defender >> Tools >> Software Explorer >> Startup Programs

There are likely some programs here that you do not  need to have startup every time you start your computer.

Feel free to remove them if you are sure that you do not want them to appear at startup.
